Back to the Top About the Author Belle Yang was named Xuan in Chinese. The name literally means "Forget-All-Sorrow." Indeed, the author-illustrator recalls a seemingly worry-free childhood in Taiwan and Japan, where she doodled and fiddled around with wordsĄ and discovered they were her life. Belle Yang has developed a remarkable style influenced by childhood memories of Taiwan and Japan, her experience immigrating to the United States at age seven, and her studies in Scotland and China. She has written and illustrated two highly praised books for adults and three picture books for children - including Hannah Is My Name: A Young Immigrant's Story and Always Come Home to Me and is working on a graphic novel.
