Hello AACP Newsletter Readers.

I’ll try to be brief with this editor’s message.

After finishing the edits to our interview with Charlie Chin Part 2, it became abundantly clear to Philip and me that this was a pretty good one.

If you didn’t get to read last month’s interview Part 1, please do and then read the second part in this month’s newsletter.

Charlie was an eyewitness and participant in a part of life and history that we don’t always glimpse except in biopics or fictionalized dramas on musicians' lives. What makes his life story unique was that he was an AAPI in the music scene during the 1960s and 70s in America.

We started this interview to get his perspective on the “Toronto Rock and Roll Revival” concert in 1969, but got a small but expansive slice of some of his experiences as a musician and storyteller. Since his later work was beyond the scope of what we had originally planned we didn’t get to dig too deep into his role in the Asian American movement of the 70s. We hope that the links that we provided in the article will help inform you of the interesting part he played during that period.
