Hi AACP Blog Readers.

Happy Asian Pacific American Heritage Month!

If you’re a subscriber to the newsletter and didn’t see the correction email (sent out today, May 4), the emailed version of the April newsletter had a mistake with the link to the Mas Hongo Interview Series article (it took readers to a March article). The online version of the April 2022 newsletter has the correct link. Check it out.

Here are some events that are taking place this month that I didn’t mention in the April newsletter.

The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is having their 40th film festival from May 12-22. Read more about it.

CAAM also has a PBS watch guide for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. Click here to see it.

Author Jeanie Low (China Connection: Finding Ancestral Roots for Chinese in America) has informed me that she is doing a free webinar for the Clayton Public Library in Houston, Texas, on May 13, Noon-1pm (PT). Here’s her description for the event –

I'll show an overview of resources in English available for bilingually challenged genealogy researchers: U.S. 1880 census listing Chinese goldminers, deciphering Chinese gravestones, International Chinese business directory, 1913, 1885 SF Chinatown map, how to research and receive copies of 20th century immigration & naturalization case files. what to bring for an ancestral visit etc. There are 200+ zoom audience slots.

Click here to find more information and to register.

Oddly enough, in a month where we celebrate AAPI’s heritage in America, this May 6 is the 140th anniversary of the Chinese Exclusion Act. Thankfully they were unsuccessful in keeping us all out.

Take care.
